Dairy-Free and Healthy

There is very little good that can be said about dairy. Each animal including humans produces milk specifically made up of nutrients suitable for that specific type of animals young. Once they are weaned they do not require it anymore. We should no more feel we require cows' milk than we should expect to drink our Mother's milk into adulthood.

Dairy is full of saturated fat and cholesterol plus it is contaminated with blood, pus, hormones, antibiotics and often pesticides. More and more humans are becoming lactose-intolerant as our systems fight this unnatural product. Our children are becoming obese and developing allergies but Dairy Boards still continue to promote this product when it should be treated as dangerous as tobacco.

Studies have proved that dairy actually causes osteoporosis, not as we are led to believe by intensive advertising by the Dairy Boards. The high protein content actually leaches calcium for our body. See Harvard Nurses Study

Being high in cholesterol dairy increases the risk of cardiovascular disease plus many studies have show that various additives and enzymes in milk are responsible for higher incidence of prostrate, breast and ovarian cancers. Studies also show a link between dairy and Type 1 Diabetes.

It is no wonder that more and more people are turning to dairy substitutes and they are therefore becoming readily available in supermarkets and health shops. Basically you can replace dairy milk with soy, oat, rice, nut, or coconut milk and cream with silken tofu or non-dairy cream. Or why not make your own homemade dairy substitutes. Go Dairy Free has many homemade recipes and "The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook" by Jo Stepaniak of Grassroots Veganism will give you many wonderful cheese substitutes to make at home.

"All human beings at one stage of their lives have to be able to digest the lactose in their mothers' milk. But for almost all mammals, as you get older the ability to synthesize the lactose enzyme diminishes until you get to a point where you simply can't digest milk." Marvin Harris

"It is hard to turn on the television without hearing commercials suggesting that milk promotes strong bones. The commercials do not point out that only 30 percent of milk's calcium is absorbed by the body or that osteoporosis is common among milk drinkers. Nor do they help you correct the real causes of bone loss." Dr. Neal Barnard Milk is for babies.

"When you grow up you have to drink beer." Arnold Schwarzenegger
